The Two Cups

Mission Accomplished, Day 5

Luke 22: 14-23, 39-44

This passage is fascinating, right? We are reading about the Last Supper, Jesus telling His friends He will die soon, and point blank saying “one of you will betray me.” I wonder if/ what part of this the disciples are actually understanding at this point. Do they actually understand that He will be tortured and killed very soon? I wonder what their thoughts were after-the-fact? Have you ever experienced a moment where you look back on a memory and all of a sudden realize the signs or connect the dots?

Then we get to the second passage of tonight’s reading and we are seeing Jesus almost as a vulnerable human, right? He’s “in anguish” He is emotional; He knows what’s getting ready to happen; He’s getting ready to be tortured and experience an excruciating death! Even in His anguish, He still prays “Not my will, but yours be done.” What a powerful verse- have you ever been in a position where you’re scared, maybe you don’t want to be there, but you’re still willing to turn it over to God and say “not my will, but yours be done!”

What were your takeaways from this passage?

For tonight’s activity, again I found the song selected by Scott James on YouTube for my family to listen to as we read and talked through tonight’s devotional.
