The Most Important Day in History

Mission Accomplished, Day 6

Luke 23: 32-47

This passage feels a little ironic to me. It’s a gruesome scene, right? There’s a lot of blood, the crowd is worked up and yelling, the criminals being crucified may be screaming in pain- overall pretty dramatic & intense, but it leaves me with almost a warm and fuzzy, happily-ever after feeling. One on side we have the criminal being crucified who still takes time to join in with the crowd yelling insults at Jesus, this seems crazy, right? Dude, you’re literally in the process of dying for a crime you actually committed and you’re using what energy you have left to insult someone else?! But then there’s the other criminal, who not only doesn’t take part in the hurling insults, he actually reprimands the criminal insulting Jesus, then asks Jesus to remember him once they’re both dead! Wow!!

For tonight’s activity we used popsicle sticks and jute rope instead of sticks from outside.

Our littles are really enjoying being a part of this Easter devotional, but I am really curious how much of this story you share with your kids and at what ages did you start telling them more of the painful, gruesome details?

What were your takeaways here? What are your thoughts on James’s Mission Accomplished?
